Ocean surface wind speeds and directions at 10-meter height are derived from scatterometer observations of returned microwave pulses. The instrument currently in operation is the QuikScat SeaWinds scatterometer launched in July, 1999. Satellite overpasses of tropical cyclones typically occur twice daily. Plots of eight degree lat/lon regions are produced for each overpass and stored in this archive. To assist in using the scatterometer winds, our archive environment also shows SSM/I rain rates, Microwave OI SSTs, and plots of wind speeds, SSTs, and surface pressure at the 6 hourly reported storm locations.

Click on storm names above to access the archive environment. The same type of plots are available in "near-real-time" for currently active storms on our Active Storms page.
